A.C. 12hp, 16hp
A.C. produced the 12hp from 1918-24 using an Anzani 4-cylinder 1478cc engine, or with their own 2-litre 6-cylinder engine (16hp) from 1922. There were two specifications, 'Empire' as a lower-priced option, and 'Royal' as a more upmarket model. The 6-cylinder model employed John Weller's 'Light Six' engine which was an alloy unit with chain-driven overhead cam. All was very advanced, and this 2-litre unit gave 40bhp in 1921, but was upgraded to 100bhp by 1963.
AC Royal front
AC Royal. AC Cars Ltd grew out of Autocarriers in 1922 when SF Edge (Napier fame) took over the company. He inherited the John Weller designed lightweight 6cylinder engine which supplanted the Anzani 4cylinder engine.
