Vanden-Plas Princess 3-litre and 4-litre R
Austin launched the Farina-designed Austin A99 Westminster and Wolseley 6/99 (ADO 10) in 1959. In the same year a Vanden Plas version (ADO 37) was offered, finished at Kingsbury. The Vanden-Plas 3-litre followed up the success of the Westminster-based Austin A105 Vanden-Plas, and helped to created a new brand for the Austin arm of B.M.C. When the A99 and 6/99 were upgraded to A110 and 6/110 in 1961 the Vanden Plas 3-litre was also upgraded (ADO 53). For 1964 the Vanden Plas 3-litre was developed into the Princess 4-litre R (ADO 66) with Rolls-Royce sourced 4litre engine, but the 'Mini Bentley' did not catch on.
