Austin-Healey 100, 100S, 100M, 100/6
Jensen was asked to design and build the Austin A40 Sports which can be seen as a smaller version of the Jensen Interceptor. Jensen designed a replacement sports car but were beaten to it by Donald Healey's Austin-based Healey 100. Healey's 100 was designed by Gerry Coker and used the 2660cc 4-cylinder engine from the Austin A90 Atlantic, and came to be built by Jensen when Tickford could not supply the quantity required. The original body was the BN1 2-seater, which was replaced by the BN2 having a changed chassis, larger wheel arches and a 4-speed gearbox in 1955. In 1956 the BN4 2+2 body was given to the new 100/6, and a new 2-seater BN6 announced in 1956. Racing Healeys generated two special editions, the Sebring-inspired 100S with aluminium body and alloy head 132bhp engine, and the Le Mans inspired 100M with 110bhp engine and louvred bonnet. Six cylinder power came to the 100/6 launched in BN4 body in 1956 and BN6 in 1958. The 2639cc straight six developed 102bhp and came from the Austin A105 Westminster.
