Austin-Healey Cars
Jensen was asked to design and build the Austin A40 Sports which can be seen as a smaller version of the Jensen Interceptor. Jensen designed a replacement sports car but were beaten to it by Donald Healey's Austin-based Healey 100. Healey's 100 was designed by Gerry Coker and used the 2660cc 4-cylinder engine from the Austin A90 Atlantic, and came to be built by Jensen when Tickford could not supply the quantity required, and the Austin-Healey 100 went into production. Donald Healey followed his recipe with big Austin components adapted for smaller ingredients and designed the Austin-Healey Sprite. This was based around Austin A35 and Morris Minor components. Launched in 1958, the Austin-Healey Sprite was powered by a tuned 948cc A-series engine and given a distinctive 'Frogeye' style bonnet.
