The 6C (6-cylinder) name was given to a 1927 car bearing the 6-cylinder 1,487cc sohc engine developed by Vittorio Jano. This engine was in fact 6 x 8ths of the Alfa Romeo P2 Racing Car 1,987cc inline eight. In 1929 Jano developed the 6C 1750 by enlarging the engine to 1,752cc. Presented at the 1929 Salkon di Roma, it was offered in the versions; Turismo (122-inch) with a standard engine; Sport with a tuned engine on a 108-inch wheelbase; Super Sport (later Gran Sport) which had a 106-inch wheelbase and a supercharged engine. The Gran Sport was replaced by the 8C 2300 in 1931 after almost 2,500 were produced.
