Alfasud
Alfa Romeo opened a factory in southern italy at Pomigliano d'Arco and called the products from there 'Alfa South' (Alfasud). The first product was a front wheel drive 'supermini' developed by Rudolf Hruska around an 1186cc flat-four engine, wrapped in a body by ItalDesign's Giorgetto Giugiaro at the 1971 Turin Show. Alfasuds were 4-door non-hatchback cars, but in 1973 a sporty 2-door TI model was added, and in 1975 a 5-door estate car 'Giardinetta'. The Alfasud Sprint coupe was launched in 1976, and in 1981 the Giardinetta was deleted in favour of a full hatchback saloon. The Alfa Romeo 33 replaced the Alfasuds in 1983.
