Allard M-type Four-seater Allards were offered as the Allard L-type from 1946-48, and from 1947 to 1950 as the M-type drophead and the P-type fixed head saloon. The L-type sold 193 from 1949 to 1952 with a 112-inch chassis. The M-type sold 500 copies, mostly as 4-seater drophead coupes, although some hardtops might also have been sold. Wheelbase was 112 inches, which was 6-inches longer than the K-type. The L-type was known as the 'LCC' and was fitted with an ash-framed 4-seat tourer body by Hilton Brothers of Fulham. Most British Allard M-types had the 3622cc flathead Ford V8 also used by the British Ford Pilot. In 1952 the M2 was brought out with completely new 'A' shaped grille, but the result was ugly and the car was hastily revamped as the M2X with repositioned engine and more legroom, but the ugly styling was retained. |
