Alvis 12/50, 12/60 The 12/50 was the product that set Alvis on the road, with an ohv 1496cc engine that was first produced in 1923 and sold until 1932. Saloon and Touring cars were heavier and given 1598cc or 1645cc versions of the 4-cylinder ohv engine. Alvis gave the 12/50 a 4-speed gearbox, albeit without synchromesh, and the engine had a single Solex carburettor. Front brakes were changed to an Alvis design in 1924, and in 1927 Alvis started using a Steering box from Marles and continued with these until 1960. From 1931 a twin carb sporting version named the '12/60' was available and production of 12/50 and 12/60 totalled 4000. |
