Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire
'Sapphire' was a name used by Armstrong-Siddeley on its turbojet engine, and was given to the new model launched at the 1952 London Motor Show. A new 3435cc ohv 6-cylinder engine was created for the Sapphire based on work by W.O. Bentley and Fred Allard. A new 4.0-litre version of this engine was given to the Star Sapphire in 1958, and the original engine was copied by Humber for their 1958 Super Snipe. The Sapphire body was of traditional design and built onto a separate chassis frame; 4-light and 6-light versions were available. A limousine version of the Sapphire was also available from 1959. In 1960 production ended by Armstrong-Siddeley decided to concentrate on aircraft manufacture.

The Sapphire 346 was introduced in 1952 with six-cylinder 3,435 cc engine which had hemi-spherical combustion chambers and gave either 125bhp or 150bhp depending on the carburretors fitted. Humber was allowed to copy the design of this engine for its own Super Snipe unit

Armstrong-Siddeley Star Sapphire MkII 1960. Almost previewing the appearance of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III of 1962, the quad lamps revision to the Armstrong Siddeley MkII was too little too late, and this prototype was the only car made, and the last car from armstrong Siddeley.

Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire 346 MkII. The 3.4-litre 6-cylinder engine was an advanced designed influenced by both W.O. Bentley and Fred Allard, and later plagiarised by Humber for the 1958 Super Snipe engine (with permission from Armstrong-Siddeley).

Armstrong-Siddeley Star Sapphire MkII 1960. The MkII Star Sapphire was given a slight makeover - probably not enough - and claims to have been the first British car to have quad headlamps, although the Humber Super Snipe of 1960 would also claim that first.
