Sunbeam Alpine Fastback
From 1969-75 a cheaper version of the fastback Sunbeam Rapier was launched as the new Sunbeam Alpine. This used the Roy Axe -designed Sunbeam Rapier fastback body, but was given a less powerful single carb 1725cc engine. Inside the Alpine was better trimmed than the Rapier, with a wooden dashboard and other wood trim. Outside the Alpine was much plainer and sold in the UK for 8per cent less. Confusingly the Sunbeam Rapier fastback was sold on the American market from 1969-70 as the Sunbeam Alpine GT.

Sunbeam Alpine. The Alpine was trimmed much more simply that the Rapier fastback, less chrome and no vinyl roof covering. Standard wear was steel wheels, not the alloys on this car.
