Sunbeam Rapier Fastback
The Rootes Arrow range was introduced as the Hillman Hunter in 1967, and followed in 1967 by the fastback Sunbeam Rapier. A radically new body was designed for the Sunbeam Rapier by Roy Axe. The fastback body has been regarded as a cheap rip-off of the Plymouth Barracuda body, but Roy Axe insists the similarity is by chance. The Rapier used a Hillman Hunter platform (and its tail lights), and was given a tuned 1725cc 5-bearing engine. In 1968 a higher specification H120 Rapier was offered with 110bhp Holbay-tuned engine and Rostyle wheels. From 1969-75 a cheaper version of the fastback Sunbeam Rapier was launched as the new Sunbeam Alpine. The Sunbeam Rapier name ended in 1976 when the Arrow models ceased production
