Aston Martin 1.5-litre
Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin started making specials in 1915, but production cars only came out from the Kensington factory in 1923. The first engine was a 1485cc sidevalve unit designed by HV Robb, and even though it only gave 38bhp it propelled the car to 77mph. A twin cam 16-valve engine was also built for competition and John Benson designed a twin cam engine in 1925 just before Bamford and Martin became bankrupt.
