Austin A70 Hampshire, A70 Hereford The Austin A70 Hampshire was launched in 1948 to replace the Austin 16 BIS and retained the 2199cc 6-cylinder engine of that car. Body was designed by Dick Burzi and was usually sold as a 4-door saloon but a 2-door wooden station wagon and a pickup version were also made. The chassis of this car was used in extended form for the 1950 Jensen Interceptor model after Leonard Lord agreed the supply of Austin components to Jensen to counteract legal measures. In 1950 the A70 Hereford replaced the Hampshire and gained a wider longer wheelbase body by Dick Burzi which shared its doors with the A40 Somerset. The A70s were replaced by the lower longer Cambridge-based Austin A90 Westminster in 1954. |
