Austin A50 Cambridge
The third 'A40' was launched in 1954 to replace the A40 Somerset together with the better equipped A50 Cambridge. A new 1200cc ohv engine started the BMC B-series engine family, and in 1498cc form this powered the A50 Cambridge. The A40/A50 Cambridge shared a monocoque bodyshell designed by Dick Burzi that was also adapted for the A90 Westminster. The A50 Cambridge was better equipped than its A40 sibling and sold 115,000 from 1954-57. In 1957 the Cambridge was upgraded to A55 and the A40 models were dropped.
