Austin Twelve 1931-39
Austin's one model 20hp policy came to an end in 1921 when Austin introduced the 1661cc 4-cylinder Twelve. This was enlarged to 1861cc in 1926 and continued in production until the late 1930s. Austin relieved the 'Heavy Twelve' in 1931 with a new 6-cylinder 1496cc Austin 12/6. In 1933 a new '12/4' model was introduced alongside the 12/6 with a 1525cc 4-cylinder sv engine. The 12/6 was upgraded to 1711cc in 1934. The 6-light Harley saloon was offered as well as a 2-seater tourer. A booted Harley was offered in 1934 called the Ascot, and the Harley dropped in 1935. The chrome radiator was replaced by a painted cowl in 1935, There was a major body restyle in 1937 with rounded lines and split rear window. Dick Burzi's 'transatlantic' styling was applied to the 1939 iteration, although this was an entirely new body which only resembled the 1937 version from the side and rear.
