Austin Cambridges, A40, A50, A55, A55 MkII, A60
The name "Cambridge' was first used on the Austin Ten saloon launched in 1936. Subsequently 'Cambridge' was given to the third 'A40' launched in 1954 to replace the A40 Somerset together with the better equipped A50 Cambridge. The A40 Cambridge had a 1200cc engine soon to be known as the B-series engine, and the A50 Cambridge was given a 1498cc version of this same engine. In 1957 the Cambridge was upgraded to A55 Cambridge and the A40 Cambridge was dropped. Pinin Farina designed the A55 MkII Cambridge that was launched in 1959 and subsequently upgraded to the A60 Cambridge in 1961.
