Austin A40 Dorset
The Austin A40 was launched in 1947 as the 2-door Dorset and the 4-door Devon saloon. Bodies were bolted onto a frame, rather than monocoque, and were designed by Dick Burzi. A 1200cc ohv 4-cylinder engine powered the A40. The 2-door Dorset was intended to be an entry level car to replace the Austin Eight, and was originally designed to be 4-inches narrower. Production Dorsets and Devons were made to the same dimensions. Early Dorsets had 5-inch headlamps, later updated to 7-inches
