Bond Bug Tom Karen had designed his own Three Wheeler car back in 1955, and revisited the ideas in this for his designs in 1963 and 1964 commissioned by Reliant to replace the Reliant Regal. These designs were too radical and were shelved until 1967 when Ogle Design reworked the project turning it into the Bond Bug prototype in 1969. John Crosthwaite designed a new chassis for the Bug, and this was fitted with the Reliant 700cc engine (later upgraded to 750cc). Launched in 1970 the Bong Bug 700 was very basic, with 'essential' extras (such as doors) only being given to the 700E model, and more kit plus a higher power engine for the Bug 700ES. The more powerful 750 models were launched in 1973, but production ended in 1974 after 2268 were sold. |
