Bond Equipe 2-litre Bond Cars decided to supplement the Herald-based Bond GT4S with a new model based on the Vitesse 2-litre. This was launched in 1967 with an attractive body in fibreglass to fit the Vitesse chassis and mechanics. Design proposals were made by Trevor Fiore, but the final design is attributed to Bond's own Alan Pounder, and now include a purpose made front windsreen and door panels in place of Triumph parts. Power came from the Vitesse 1998cc inline six cylinder engine, but from 1968 the GT6 105bhp unit was used. In 1968 the MkII was announced, gaining more power as well as revisaions to the rear suspension and rain gutters on the roof. A roofless MkII was also offered as the Bond 2-litre convertible and sales of the open Bond were 841 to 591 of the fastback. Bond Cars came under the ownership of Reliant in 1969 and Triumph denied them components to produce any more Equipes so production ended in 1970. |
