Bristol 405
Bristol responded to calls for a roomy Bristol by producing the 405. An extended 404 chassis was used, clothed in a four-door body by designer Dudley Hobbs. Construction was aluminium over timber frames, and the engine was a 105bhp version of the 1971cc Bristol 6-cylinder. The 405 was launched at the Paris Salon in 1954 and went into production in 1955. The 405 sold well, with 265 leaving the factory before it was replaced in 1958. The 405 was Bristol's first and last 4-door. Abbotts of Farnham also built 51 2-door drophead coupe bodies on the Bristol 405.
