For 1940 the wheelbase of the Special increased to 121-inches, ahead of the new body for 1941. From 1937 a new ohv 4,065cc (248) straight eight engine was given to the Special, and for 1941 this was uprated to 125 bhp with high compression. The new Special bodies by Fisher (actually shared with Chevrolet) had integrated headlamps, no more running boards or side-mounted spare wheels. Three fastbacks were added to the Fisher bodies, including the Business Coupe, Touring Sedan and Sedanette. A Series 40A Special was built on a shorter 118-inches, whilst the regular 40B was on 121-inches. In 1946 only the B-body Series 40B went back into production, and was only sold as 2-door sedanet or 4-door sedan.
