The 'Eldorado' brand was first used on a 1952 Motorama show car, a Series 62 convertible modified by Harley J Earl. From this a production model was available for 1953 as a special and only 532 were sold at very high prices. This was followed for 1954 by a much more mainstream model that was built out of an almost standard Series 62 product and therefore was much cheaper and easier to make. Originally sold only as a convertible, a 2-door hardtop 'Eldorado Seville' was introduced in 1956 to compliment the 'Seville Biarritz' convertible. Cadillac gave its 1957 cars the new GM C-body and Eldorado versions of the Series 62 2-door hardtop and convertibles took their places in the catalogue both having different boots to other Cadillacs. Ed Glowacke designed a special 4-door hardtop 'Eldorado Brougham' for 1957 which was loaded with features and equipment and priced at twice that of any other Eldorado. For 1959 Cadillac gave its cars a new 130-inch GM C-body and some of the most outlandish rear wings ever given to a car.
