In 1950 Chevrolet launched a new hardtop version of the Chevrolet Deluxe Styleline cars, it was named 'Bel Air'. By 1953 the 'Bel Air' name was strong enough to apply to the premium models, marketed as a '2400' (or '240') above the 150 and 210 ranges, and available in 4 body styles. All new 1955 Bel Airs were engineered by Ed Cole with styling by Carl H Renner and body engineer Charles A. Stebbins. All new 1959 Bel Airs were given the new GM 1959 look with horizontal fins.
