Chrysler restyled the Newport for the second generation in 1965 and promoted it to the same C-series platform as the New Yorker and Imperial. It was also given the same slab-sided design by Elwood Engel, which contrasted against the more exciting coke-bottle style of General Motors. Body styles offered included a 4-door sedan and 4-door hardtop, 2-door hardtop and 2-door convertible as well as a wagon. The wheelbase was 124-inches and the 383 (6,292cc) Hemi V8 was standard wear with an option for 440 (7,206cc) V8. Chryslers had fresh metal in 1967 but even then were broadly similar until the new shell iin 1969. A new higher level 'Newport' trim became available from 1967
