For 1957 the new winged Windsors took the 'Forward Look' to the edge. Virgil Exner gave the 1957 Windsors the largest wings yet seen on a car. Dual headlamps were fitted, where state legislation allowed. A larger 354 cu. in. 'Spitfire' V8 was standardised on the Windsor. The style was radical and alarmed Ford and General Motors. However, the 1957 cars also alarmed the buyers, and poor build quality saw rust problems and breaking torsion bars, and lowered sales in 1958. The Windsor also went onto the shorter DeSoto Firesweep platform for 1958. There were restyles for 1959, 1960, 1961, and then the 'Windsor' badge was dropped.
