Citroen Ami 8 In 1969 the Ami 8 was launched at the Geneva Salon facelifted by Robert Opron as Bertoni had died in 1963. The first upgrade came in September 1969 when the Ami 8 was given inboard disc brakes, later given to some versions of the 2CV. In 1971 the Ami 8 was given wind-up front windows, but the sliding windows in the rear doors remained. The final version of the Ami was the Ami Super launched in 1973 with the 4-cylinder 1015cc engine and gearbox from the Citroën GS and which sold until 1976. In fact the Ami Super was onlu using up supplies of the 1015cc engine because its power was too low for the GS. From 1969-71 the M35 is produced, a prototype 2-door fastback coupe made to research the Citroen Wankel engine in 'normal' service with paying customers who do high mileages. Only 267 M35 coupes are made out of an intended 500; they were built by Heuliez. |
