In 1934 Percy Twigg founded Coachcraft Ltd in West London at a time when many coachbuilders were going out of business. Twigg's company flourished, especially because Coachcraft got contracts from Reid Railton and built for the Hudson and Railton brands at that time. The success of Coachcraft was due in part to his designer Geoffrey Durtnal, who went for training at Henri Chapron in Paris and helped Coachcraft to create similar designs particularly on Delage chassis. There was also a Coachcraft Ltd in California from 1940, but by this time the British Coachcraft was busy building Navy Patrol Boats and did not return to coachbuilding after the war.
