In 1966 Uzina de Autoturisme Pitesti was formed to build cars in the south of Romania and in 1968 the Dacia 1100 and 1100S were produced being the Renault R8 and R8 Gordini made under licence. From 1969 Dacia were able to produce the Renault 12 as the Dacia 1300, and from 1973 the Dacia 1300 Break was also produced with a Pickup version from 1975. Renault acquired Dacia in 1999 and new models such as the Dacia Logan (2004), the Dacia Sandero (2008) and the Dacia Duster (2010) benefitted from the expertise of Renault. Dacia models are now sold as entry level Renaults across many markets.
