Daimler Conquest DJ250 Daimler's Consort and the other 2½litre cars (previously 'DB18') were replaced in 1953 by the Daimler DJ250 Conquest which used a 2433cc six cylinder version of the Lanchester Fourteen engine. This standard 75bhp engine was supplemented by a high compression twin carb unit giving 100bhp from 1954 and these cars were called 'Conquest Century'. Smaller than the Consort, the Conquest actually used the Barker-designed body already in production for the Lanchester Fourteen. Most Conquests carried the standard 6-light saloon body (similar to the Regency), but there was a Drophead Coupe and even a roadster, and some customers had other coachbuilt bodies fitted. The Conquest was hoped to be a volume seller whilst the Regency aimed for the 'quality' market, but sales did not meet expectations. |
