Daimler Double-Six 1972-92
Jaguar launched its XJ6 range of cars with 2.8 and 4.2litre 6-cylinder engines in 1968 and the following year a Daimler badged version was offered with the name 'Sovereign'. The V12-engined Jaguar XJ car was announced in 1972 and the more luxurious Daimler version was given the name 'Double-Six' bringing back the name of a famous ancestor produced in small numbers from 1926-36. Under the bonnet was a 5342cc single cam V12 engine by Harry Mundy and Walter Hassan, only the second engine ever designed at Jaguar! The Series I Double-Six was available in standard or long wheelbase versions, but when the Series II was announced in 1973 the long wheelbase was default. In 1979 the Series III car was launched with completely revised body by Pininfarina and this continued until 1992.
