Daimler Sovereign and Double-Six S3 and XJ40
The Jaguar XJ series III was launched in 1979 with a comprehensive restyle including taller glass raising the overall hieght by 1.5 inches, and restyles to the nose and to the tail. The XK 3.4 and 4.3-litre engines continued along with the 5.3-litre V12 and there were Daimler versions for the European market. In 1986 the new XJ40 was introduced with a Daimler version simply badged as 'Daimler 3.6-litre' and a V12 version was not available until the XJ81 of 1993.

Daimler 3-6-litre front
Daimler 3.6-litre. The XJ40 Daimler version was simply called the 'Daimler 3.6-litre' as the Sovereign name had been passed to the upmarket Jaguars. Daimlers were given the one-piece rectangular headlamps which in my opinion are not classy enough for a Jaguar or Daimler

Daimler Double-Six 1988. Daimler's version of the XJ12 continued into the Series III with the Daimler Double-Six, although in America these were marketed as 'Jaguar Vanden-Plas because Mercedes-Benz still had the rights to the Daimler name.
