Delage D8 In spite of the Stock Market crash of 1929, Louis Delage unwisely introduced the Delage D8 in 1929, replacing the Delage GLS and Delage DM. Maurice Gaultier engineered a 4061cc sohc inline eight motor for the D8, giving 102bhp or 120bhp for the D8 S model. A cheaper D8-15 was introduced in 1933 with a 15CV 2668cc inline eight for cheaper taxation, but was only marketed for one year. In 1934 Delage introduced a larger 'small' D8 with 3570cc and 85bhp, or as the D8-105 with the same 3570cc engine tuned to 105bhp, but both these models were lost when Delage went under delahaye cxontrol and lost its factory at Courbevoie in 1935. The next D8 was the D8-100 with a 4302cc inline eight giving 90 to 105bhp that was introduced in 1936. An ever larger 4750cc inline eight powered the D8-120 from 1937 until WWII ended production and the eight cylinder cars did not return in 1946. |
