DeSoto redesigned its 1940 cars and designated it the S7, which was sold as either Deluxe or Custom, and they were built on a 122.5-inch wheelbase. 1941 cars got longer, wider and lower 'Rocket' bodies for the S8, which was built on a shorter 121.5-inch wheelbase. For 1942 DeSoto restyled their S10 cars with retractable headlamp covers. When DeSoto returned in 1946 it was with the S10 restyled with conventional headlamps and designated S11. The S11 was offered in Custom as 2-door and 4-door sedans, convertible, club coupe, and an 8-passenger sedan or limousine or 8-passenger suburban on 139.5-inch extended wheelbase. The S11 continued with few changes until the 1949 Keller restyle.

DeSoto Custom 1946. A 3.9-litre 6-cylinder engine powered the DeSoto mated to Fluid drive transmission developed for Chrysler Group cars. A driver could change gear using the clutch or simply leave in one gear and let the transmission cope with changes of gear.
