Dodge Challenger 1969-74
Bill Brownlie (Dodge design chief) laid down the design for the Challenger under Elwood Engel. The intention was to create a 'Pony Car' like Ford's Mustang and General Motor's Camaro. In August 1969 this car was launched as the E-body Dodge Challenger and the new Barracuda uplifted from its A-body beginnings so that both bodies could handle wider more powerful engines. Interiors were designed by Colin Neale. Nine different engines could be specified, from a 145 bhp six up to a 425 bhp Hemi V8. Production ended in Spring 1974, and a new 77 bhp Mitsubishi-sourced car took on the 'Challenger' badge.
