Fiat 126
At the 1972 Turin Salon Fiat presented the replacement for the Fiat 500, the 126. Despite the trend for front wheel drive cars, the Fiat 126 took the recipe for the Fiat 500 and gave it a new body based on a Spanish Seat 133 design. Launched with a 594cc air-cooled 2-cylinder engine, this was upgraded to 652cc in 1977 and 704cc in 1987. FSM in Poland started production in 1973 of the Fiat 126p, and produced 3.5 million up to the year 2000, which included the 'Fiat' cars sold after 1980 when Italy stopped production. From 1987 the 126 BIS was introduced which had a flatter 704cc water-cooled engine and a hatchback for extra accomodation.
