Fiat 500 'Topolino'
Fiat's first small car was launched in 1937 as the 500, but soon nicknamed 'Topolino' because its lights looked like the ears of a mouse. Dante Giocosa engineered the little car, giving it a 569cc 4-cylinder side valve engine driving the rear wheels. The body was designed by Rudolfo Schaffer and although supposedly a 2-seater often held more. Standard bodies were 2-door coupe or convertible of a longer 3-door estate or van. The Topolino was also manufactured by SIMCA in France, NSU in Germany, and also in Poland and India.
