Ford Capri
'Capri' had been used by Ford for their Consul Classic Capri (1961-63), but also in USA for Lincoln models in the 1950s and for Mercury models in the 1960s. Hailed as 'Britain's pony car', it is connected with the American Ford Mustang by its designer Phil Clark who worked on the Ford Mustang and designed its logo. He transferred from Dearborn to Dagenham in 1964 and penned the Capri for Project Colt which was launched as the Ford Capri in 1969. German and British versions had different engines, but in principal it was sold with engines from 1300cc to 2000cc in either inline 4 or V4 design. For 1970 the 3000 V6 GT was added in Britain and the twin carb 2300 GT in Germany. In 1972 the 'Mk1 facelift' was made, giving all versions the 3-litre power bulge, larger headlamps with separate indicators, and larger rear lamp clusters. From 1972 Pinto 4-cylinder engines replaced the Kent engines, and production ended in 1974 when the MkII Capri was launched.
