The third Granada was only a 'Granada' in the UK because everywhere else bought it as a 'Ford Scorpio'. Launched in May 1985 the new 'aerodynamic' Scorpio not only resembled a Ford Sierra, it was actually built on a stretched Sierra floorpan. Under the bonner Ford sprinked Pinto 4-cylinder engines, together with Cologne V6 units. There was only one body, a 5-door hatchback, but in 1990 Ford supplemented the hatchback with a new booted saloon in Spring 1990. The Scorpio was re-styled in 1992 with larger lamp units and a new estate car version was added. A Scorpio MkII was launched in 1994, when the British had to buy this as a 'Scorpio' and no longer as a Granada. This bug-eyed car was essentially just a restyle of the Scorpio and only offered as saloon or estate without any hatchback version. The Scorpio II was disaster and even a restyle in Spring 1998 only kept the car in the showrooms until the end of the summer.
