Ford Prefect
The first Prefect was launched in 1938 as a development of the E83W Ford Ten (1936-8). Given the identifier 'E93A' the pre-war cars had painted grilles and 17inch wheels, and postwar cars had 16inch wheels. This was replaced in 1948 by the E493A Prefect which still used essentially the same body as the E83W Ford Ten and the same 1172cc sidevalve engine, but was modernised with front wings which incorporated the headlamps. The first modern Prefect was the 100E produced from 1953 to 1959 with a low slung 4-door body and the same 1172cc engine. The final Prefect was the 107E Prefect launched in 1959, using the engine, gearbox and back azle from the 105E Anglia in the 100E Prefect bodyshell, 38,000 were sold until 1961.
