Ford Taunus Cars
The 'Taunus' name was first given to Ford of Germany cars from 1939, and is the name of the German Taunus mountains. Ford had started production of the British Ford Model Y in 1933 as the 'Ford Koln, and in turn replaced this with a German version of the Ford Model C which was sold as the 'Ford Eifel' from 1935 to 1940. Replacing this was Ford Taunus G93A which was a streamlined car based on the 1172cc sv engine used in the Eifel and British Fords. After the war Germany continued to make its own range of cars all badged 'Taunus'. When the Ford Taunus TC3 was superseded in 1982 by the pan-European Ford Sierra, the 'Taunus' name was lost, although the old Cortina/Taunus TC continued to be made in Turkey and badged 'Taunus' until 1994.
