Ford Taunus TC, 1970 - 1976 The Cortina MkIII was known internally as the 'TC' for Taunus Cortina because it was developed jointly between Ford Cologne and Ford Dagenham and underneath the skin the cars were the same. It is claimed that Luigi Colani translated the 'coke bottle' Cortina TC into the Taunus TC, but Knudsen imposed the Pontiac-style front on it as he had doene with the Cortina. The Taunus TC was launched with a 1300cc version as the base model, although most cars were 1600cc versions in 2-door, 4-door or 5-door Estates. The Taunus TC models used Pinto engines in 1294cc, 1593cc, 1963cc, and were offered 1994cc and 2294cc Cologne V6 engines as well. A stylish 2-door coupe was launched in 1970 and continued in production until 1975, but was dropped when the British and German models converged for the Cortina TE and Taunus TC2. |
