Ford Falcon XB
The first new body appeared for the Falcon XA in March 1972, designed and manufactured in Australia, and at last a 2-door hardtop was added to the Falcon range. The design of the Falcon XA hardtop was radical, especially compared against its dowdy Sedan and Utility siblings. Ford revised the car as the Ford Falcon XB for 1973, and offered the GT as both a sedan (1,950) and a coupe (949). As well as six cylinder engines, Ford Australia also offered the 302 Mustang engine and the 351 Cleveland engine, both these engines stripped of Federal smog devices. In July 1976 Ford facelifted the Falcon as the Ford Falcon XC (and equivalent Fairmont), and this continued to March 1979 when an entirely new Ford Falcon XD was launched with styling similar to the European Ford Granada.
