Ford replaced the 'Customline' models in 1955 with the lower price 'Custom' and the new Fairlane. For Fleet buyers there was the entry-level 'Mainline' until 1957. The Fairlane was also offered as the pricier 'Fairlane 500', but it moved upmarket with the 'Custom' taking its place below. Then in 1959 the 'Galaxie' option was offered on the Fairlane, and from 1960 'Galaxie' became a new model line forcing the Fairlane down market, with the Fairlane 500 appealing to intermediate buyers and the plain Fairlane to fleet buyers. Wheelbase was up to 119-inches for 1960, but back down to 115.5-inches for the fourth generation 1962 model. There was a new model for 1966 and 1968, but the final 'Fairlane' model was sold in 1970 as the name 'Torino' took over.
