Ford 1949
Ford badly needed a brand new model for 1948 to revive the company. The Ford bosses engaged George W. Walker independently to go and inspect an internal design in secret and then commissioned him to produce a new design in quick time, having failed to meet the 1948 target. Dick Caleal came up with a proposal, co-designed by Bob Bourke, Joe Oros and Holden 'Bob' Koto' and this design eventually won over Ford's own internal design and was productionised as the 1949 Ford. The revolutionary slab-sided design with integrated wings was advertised as being a 'Lifeguard Body'.
