An all new Galaxie was presented for 1965, distinguished by vertically stacked headlamps and built on a 119-inch wheelbase. Homer LaGassey was on the styling team. A larger 3.9-litre inline six replaced the old 'Mileage Maker' engine and a variety of V8 engines were offered right up to a 7-litre. At the top of the Galaxie model range was the Galaxie 500 LTD which would become a separate model line. The 500 spawned a 500 XL model, and for 1968 the vertical headlamps went back to horizontal units inside the grille, with hidden lamps on the top 500 XL and 500 LTD models. For 1969 Ford produced a new larger 121-inch platform for the Galaxie models. Ford offered three Station Wagons, the simple 'Station Wagon', the higher trimmed 'Ranch Wagon' and the most expensive 'Country Squire'; they could be configured for up to ten passengers.
