Ford Mustang 1967-1974
Ford grew its Mustang bodies for 1967 with a 2-inch length increase, a taller cabin, and a 2.5-inch wider body to allow bigger engines. The new design was made under Gale Halderman and included a more aggressive grille, a longer fastback, and concave rear panel. A new 4.9-litre (302) engine was offered in 1968. The 1969 Mustangs grew 4-inches longer and were more than 200 lbs heavier than the original. With the Shelby option stopped, Ford introduced the Boss 302 and Boss 429 options in order to homologate these engines, and also the Mach 1 with 5.8-litre Windsor (351) engine and styling additions. For 1971 the Mustang was again revamped, with an extra 2-inches of length, 3-inches of width and overall weight now nearly 50% greater than the launch car. A new smaller generation of Mustang would be launched in 1974
