Renault called Amedee Gordini to develop the R1091 Dauphine Gordini with tuned engine and suspension and 4-speed gearbox. The type R1091 Gordini version of the Dauphine is offered from 1957 and features lowered suspension and wider wheels. Amedee Gordini developed a new cylinder head for the 845cc Renault entine and took the power up to 36bhp (from 27bhp), and later to 55bhp. The Dauphine Gordini was also given a 4-speed gearbox. In 1967 a 1255cc Gordini was launched with a 5-speed gearbox.
