Hillman Hawk 1936/7
In 1936 Hillman launched its largest car, the Hillman Hawk which inherited the 3181cc inline 6-cylinder engine from the 1936 Hillman 80. This engine was rated at 20.9hp and produced 80 bhp. A similar car was the Hillman 16 with 2576cc. Production of these cars was 700 Hillman 16s and 5300 Hillman Hawk/Hillman 80. The Rootes brothers the decided to repostion Hillman in the market to match Austin and Morris so these larger cars were re-branded as 'Humber', the Hillman 16 becoming the Humber Hawk with a new 4-cylinder engine, and the Hillman 80 becoming the Humber Hawk with the 3181cc engine. A new Super Snipe model was also introduced with a larger 4-litre engine.
