Hudson Super Six 1940 - 48
Hudson claimed 'Symphonic Styling' for the 1940 bodies with headlamps integrated into the front wings and the bosywork curved down over the running boards, but underneath lay the 1939 body warmed over. There was independent front suspension beneath the new front. 1941 Hudsons were almost unchanged at the front, but gained a new 'bustle-back' rear in place of earlier 'fastback' tails. 1941 wheelbases were 3 inches longer. A basic Six was marketed on a 113-inch wheelbase and above it on a 121-inch wheelbase the Super Six and the more expensive Commodore Six. The Sixes all shared a A 3,474cc inline six L-head engine. The Hudson Super Six was sold in 1946 (61,800) and 1947 (49,300), and was a restyle of the 1940-42 bodyshell with a new grille by designer Art Kibinger. It was offered as 2-door or 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, convertible, and pick up bodies. There was also a Hudson Super Eight with 4.2-litre inline eight which was shared with the more upmarket Hudson Commodore. There was modest restyling for 1947 and in 1948 the all new 'step down' monocoque bodies took over Hudson styling.
