'Terraplane' started as a model within the Essex sub-brand for Hudson in 1932, and in 1934 became a brand itself. The Essex Terraplane was lanched in 1932, as the Model K on a 106-inch wheelbase with a 3.2-litre inline six. For 1933 a Model KU was offered with a 113-inch wheelbase, and a new Essex Terraplane Eight was offered with a 4,168cc inline eight. 1934 cars were simply sold as 'Terraplane', and 1938 was the final year for the brand. New grilles were given each year, the 1936 'waterfall' grille seems to have been copied onto the Triumph Dolomite
